Not So Quiet By Hellen Zenna Smith - 1639 Words

There seems to be a clear and concise message that Hellen Zenna Smith tries to get across in her novel Not So Quiet. That message implies no matter the war, it is a grizzly and destructive force and it can shake free even the deepest-rooted forms of social norms and values. Smith emphasizes this idea straight from the first part of the novel when Tosh shaved off all of her hair (14). She described how necessity took over in these women’s lives. This necessity caused most of the women to look at their roles in society differently. Some of the values and norms that are questioned in the text are, nationalism, femininity, sexual morality and social standing. In the beginning of the book, we see that the women feel bonded by nationalism. This nationalism has brought them to the front line as ambulance drivers during World War I. Nellie â€Å"Smithy† Smith, the main character of this novel, questions this nationalism many times throughout the book. Even Tosh pokes fun at Smithy when she calls her â€Å"one of England’s Splendid Daughters† (Smith 13) because of how Tosh sees Smithy’s high class standing as part of the reason she has this nationalistic obligation. In that same line, Tosh pokes fun at the fact that the older generation is sending the younger generation to war, due to what she feels is pride-lead stupidity. The Use Of Improper Writing Techniques For Writing

As a student, I am aware of my susceptibility to many forms of improper writing techniques that hinder my ability to produce a well-written paper. While I was aware of most of these incorrect practices, I found myself unfamiliar with many ideas covered in the preliminary chapters of Who Says? The Writer’s Research. Prior to reading chapters 1, 3, 4, and 9, I had never acknowledged the concept of information literacy and all of its various components. Admittedly, I had previously regarded literacy as the ability to read and write, and never thought it could be a method of interpreting information. Furthermore, I found the many ways in which plagiarism is manifested into a writing very interesting, as I had never been aware of other forms of plagiarism besides copying a text word for word. While I found these ideas to be of tremendous value, I found the most efficient way to create a thesis the most helpful, as I usually struggle with crafting a singular idea when I am producing an essay. With these tools for writing, I will now be able to act preemptively to ensure a superior essay. Chapter one introduces information literacy- a concept I found notable. Moreover, the organization is also providing the great welcome greetings by two employees as the door; they have three employees who direct the customers to the tables. In this restaurant, you will have an attendant who will receive the orders from you. Within 5 to 10 minutes, the order will be placed before the customer. The employees are always there for the customers. After the dining, the customers can pay via online payment or an employee is there for the cash receiving service at the counter. On the other hand, a significant number of issues can be identified as the backstage operational activities of a restaurant establishment. Here, in my selected restaurant the backstage operational activities are the kitchen, staff management, an audit of the accounts and the supply chain management of the establishment (Zainol et al. 2014). The organization has a role specification in the kitchen. There are one chef, two sue-chefs, and other stuff with specified functions. The group collects its requirements (the veggies, chicken, and other food or cooking items) every day at six a.m. in every morning. The restaurant has a warehouse near to the kitchen. Three employees are always there to serve in the store. Moreover, there are anther five employees who transport the requirements of the kitchen from the store (Farmhousekingscross.com.au 2016).
